Amritsar, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, has voiced his support for a renewed alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections. He believes such a partnership could significantly bolster the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state.
Athawale expressed his confidence in an interview, stating, “The Aam Aadmi Party’s exit is certain, and an NDA government can be formed here. Personally, I believe that the BJP and Akali Dal should come together.”
Reflecting on past collaborations, he noted, “For many years, Parkash Singh Badal and the BJP worked together, maintaining power in Punjab. Therefore, to prevent Congress from gaining ground, a coalition of the BJP, Akali Dal, and the Republican Party of India (Athawale) is essential.”
He added that discussions regarding this alliance are ongoing. “If both parties unite, reaching power will not be difficult. Hence, talks are in progress. We will see what unfolds,” he remarked.
Athawale visited Amritsar on Friday, where he planned to meet Sant Niranjan Das Maharaj before heading to Ludhiana. He mentioned that he would attend a Republican Party of India event in Ludhiana, where several individuals are expected to meet him regarding the upcoming elections. He also highlighted that the Industrial Chamber of Commerce in Ludhiana is hosting a gathering.
In response to a recent incident involving the defacement of a statue of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in Ludhiana, Athawale expressed his disapproval. He stated, “I believe some anti-social elements are trying to create division in society. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s stature is immense. Disrespecting his statue will not diminish his honor. These actions are misguided.”
He further raised concerns about the law and order situation in Punjab. “The current state of law and order in Punjab is not satisfactory. The Aam Aadmi Party and Bhagwant Mann were entrusted with power, but they have failed to deliver justice to the people over the past five years. Farmers, the poor, youth, women, Dalits, and both Sikh and Hindu communities are all dissatisfied,” he stated.
