Kanhaiya Kumar Criticizes NTA Over NEET Paper Leak Controversy

New Delhi, May 27: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar targeted the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday regarding the NEET paper leak controversy. He accused the agency and the government of trying to evade accountability.

In an interview with a news agency, Kumar questioned the meaning of a paper leak. He stated that a paper leak occurs when an exam paper is published in newspapers. Concerns have been raised about the NTA head’s political ties to the BJP. The NTA is responsible for conducting all essential examinations in the country, yet it has failed to conduct any exam properly.

He further emphasized that instead of making excuses, officials should take responsibility for the controversies surrounding the exams. Kumar insisted that NTA and the Education Minister should answer these pressing questions. He noted that discussions about exams occur before each test, but when a paper leak happens, the campaigns and discussions suddenly go silent. The government must be held accountable and action should be taken.

Kumar also questioned the agency’s stance, stating that if nearly all questions are leaked, what else can it be called if not a paper leak?

This statement comes amid ongoing disputes related to the NEET UG 2026 examination and allegations of irregularities in its conduct.

On Monday, the Supreme Court remarked during a hearing on a petition against the NTA, the central body responsible for conducting exams, that it is unfortunate that no lessons have been learned from previous NEET paper leak incidents.

Earlier, on May 22, the NTA informed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education that there was not a complete paper leak in the controversial NEET UG 2026 exam. The agency claimed that only a few questions were leaked and referred to the issue as cases of misconduct rather than a full paper leak.

The NEET UG 2026 exam, a nationwide pre-medical entrance test, was canceled following major allegations of a paper leak and the circulation of a guess paper that reportedly matched several actual exam questions.

In response to this controversy, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated an inquiry, and a parliamentary investigation into the NTA is also underway. Amid widespread protests from students and parents, the NTA later announced that a re-examination would be held on June 21.
