Bhopal, May 27: Former Congress president of Narmadapuram district, Pushpraj Singh, has written to Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, highlighting serious issues faced by farmers in the region. The letter emphasizes problems related to wheat procurement, fertilizer availability, and mung bean purchases.
Digvijaya Singh has urged Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to take immediate action in favor of farmers. He pointed out that the sudden halt of slot bookings for wheat procurement has left thousands of farmers unable to sell their wheat. The government should promptly resume slot bookings and extend the procurement period.
He also noted that farmers in Narmadapuram are struggling to access sufficient fertilizer for rice crops. The e-token server frequently goes down, and there is a severe shortage of fertilizer, causing distress among farmers. The district has around 300,000 farmers, but only six fertilizer depots for distribution, exacerbating the situation.
Singh has demanded that the government ensure adequate availability of DAP fertilizer in the district. If DAP is unavailable, he requests that NPK 12:32:16 fertilizer be provided immediately as an alternative.
He raised concerns about the mung bean procurement policy, stating that the government plans to purchase only 25% of total production, which is causing confusion and anxiety among farmers. The government should clarify what will happen to the remaining produce. Additionally, a clear policy regarding the number of procurement centers, availability of jute bags, and mung bean procurement during the rainy season is needed.
Digvijaya Singh emphasized that the state government must show seriousness towards farmers’ issues and make swift decisions to provide relief.
