New Delhi, June 14: Several MPs associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday to request separate seating arrangements and submitted a memorandum regarding a potential political shift. Leading the group, MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar made significant claims during a media interaction, stirring discussions in political circles.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated, “Approximately 20 TMC MPs have approached the Speaker to request separate seating in the House. They also claimed that these MPs are moving towards a new political structure and have reportedly decided to merge with the ‘Nationalist Citizens Party of India.’ However, no immediate confirmation has been received from official political parties regarding this claim.”
She further mentioned that these MPs are willing to collaborate with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) under the leadership of the Prime Minister. They reportedly have the support of more than two-thirds of the MPs, making this shift legally significant. Complaints against the TMC leadership have also been submitted to the Speaker.
Rebel TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, while speaking to reporters, said, “We will merge with the Nationalist Citizens Party. It is a regional party. The rule is that when you separate with two-thirds of the party’s members, you cannot demand the party’s name on the first day. In July, we will request the name of the Trinamool Congress, as we have a two-thirds majority. The court will then decide.”
He also commented on the meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, stating, “Om Birla confirmed all signatures. There were 20 signatures.”
It is noteworthy that the rebel TMC MPs met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at his residence in New Delhi.
