Jharkhand Murder Case Unveiled: Five Arrested in Sukra Mahato Shooting

Ranchi, March 10: The police have made significant progress in the high-profile murder case of Sukra Mahato in the Karra police station area of Khunti district, Jharkhand. Five suspects, including the shooter, have been arrested.

The arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities recovered a locally made firearm and the motorcycle used in the crime based on the suspects’ disclosures.

Among those apprehended are Vikas Mahato, Binod Mahato, Ramprasad Mahato alias Chhotu, Sikandar Mahato alias Sachin, and Ramu Mahato. All are implicated in the conspiracy and execution of the murder. On the night of March 6, assailants opened fire on Sukra Mahato in Timda village, resulting in his immediate death. During the incident, his son was also shot and is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries in the hospital.

The incident has instilled fear in the local community. Following the shooting, the victim’s family filed a complaint at the Karra police station. The investigation revealed that the murder stemmed from a land dispute. Given the seriousness of the situation, police identified the suspects based on technical evidence and local intelligence, leading to their arrests.

Khunti Superintendent of Police Manish Toppo disclosed that the longstanding land dispute was the primary motive behind the murder. Sukra Mahato’s father-in-law had no sons, leading him to transfer approximately 17 acres of land to his two daughters, one of whom is Sukra Mahato’s wife.

According to the SP, the transfer of land to the daughters angered some relatives, resulting in a prolonged dispute between the two parties. The matter escalated to court, where a ruling favored Sukra Mahato.

Despite the court’s decision, the dissatisfaction among the accused persisted, prompting them to plot Sukra Mahato’s murder. On the night of March 6, they executed their plan in Timda village. The police continue to pursue further action in the case.
