Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has lifted the judicial stay on actions against BJP leader Babulal Marandi in connection with alleged objectionable remarks made against Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his family. The court’s decision came during the hearing of a petition filed by Marandi, and was pronounced by Justice Anil Kumar Chaudhary.
The petition sought the quashing of First Information Reports (FIRs) registered at several police stations including Madhupur in Deoghar district, Ramgarh, Simdega, and Barhet. These FIRs were filed after complaints by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) workers concerning statements attributed to Marandi in an interview uploaded on a private YouTube channel in August 2023.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s side requested one week to prepare the case, which the court granted. The FIRs in question include Simdega Police Station case number 104/2023, Barhet Police Station case number 104/2023, Ramgarh Police Station case number 196/2023, and Madhupur Police Station case number 176/2023.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha had filed these complaints following the release of the interview in which Marandi was alleged to have made remarks considered offensive towards the Chief Minister and his family. Earlier, the High Court had imposed a stay on proceedings, which has now been removed, allowing investigations and further legal processes to continue.
Following the court’s order and the granted time for case preparation, the next hearing date will be scheduled accordingly. This development clears the path for the state police to proceed with the inquiry into the matter.
