In the exchange of fire, two policemen—Santan Mehta and Sunil Ram—were martyred, while another jawan, Rohit Kumar, sustained injuries. He was rushed to MRMC Hospital at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, where he is currently under treatment.

Palamu SP Rishma Rameshan has been monitoring the situation closely. She reached the hospital late at night and reviewed the treatment being provided to the injured jawan. Meanwhile, a search operation is continuing at the encounter site.

According to the SP, police received intelligence on Wednesday evening that Shashikant and his squad were hiding in Kedal village and planning an attack. Acting on the input, a joint operation was launched under the leadership of ASP (Operations) Rakesh Kumar and SDPO (Hussainabad) S. Mohammad Yaqub.

Around 12:30 a.m., as security forces advanced in the area, the militants opened fire. Police retaliated strongly, leading to a heavy exchange of bullets. In the encounter, two policemen sacrificed their lives and one was injured. Reports suggest that some militants may also have been injured or killed, though no bodies have been recovered so far. The area has been cordoned off, and search operations are underway.
