Jharkhand Cabinet Approves Increased Compensation for Wildlife Attack Victims

Ranchi, June 15: The Jharkhand government has announced a significant increase in compensation for families of individuals who lose their lives due to wildlife attacks. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, it was decided that the compensation will now be ₹10 lakh. Previously, the amount was limited to ₹4 lakh under existing provisions.

To streamline the compensation process, the government has implemented a new system that ensures immediate financial assistance to affected families. Victims who suffer serious injuries will receive ₹2 lakh, while those with minor injuries will be compensated with ₹35,000. In cases of permanent disability, the compensation will amount to ₹3.5 lakh.

Additionally, the cabinet approved a plan to provide state government employees with advance salary and easy loan facilities for unexpected financial needs. Employees will be able to access a portion of their salary mid-month if necessary. This initiative will be managed through non-banking financial companies (NBFCs).

The government claims this measure will reduce the necessity for employees to take high-interest loans during emergencies. Under this scheme, employees can receive salary advances for up to 30 days without incurring any interest or additional charges if repaid within the same pay cycle. Long-term loan options will also be available with manageable installments. The government clarified that this arrangement will not impose any additional financial burden on the state treasury.

The cabinet also approved a proposal to standardize the pay scale for contract computer operators and data entry operators across various departments and offices, addressing long-standing salary disparities. Furthermore, an administrative approval of ₹947.26 crore was granted for the Amanat Baraj project in Palamu district, deemed crucial for irrigation and agriculture. An allocation of ₹162.82 crore was also approved for the four-lane widening and strengthening of the road from Namkum to Doranda in Ranchi.

Moreover, the cabinet decided to regularize the services of certain employees working in the Godda and Bokaro districts. Appointments for candidates for the Motor Vehicle Inspector position, as recommended by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission, were also approved. Several proposals related to the mining sector received approval, including mining leases for the Parvatpur and Seetnala coal blocks in Bokaro and the Jeetpur coal block in Godda. The decision to seek central government approval for reserving certain mineral blocks in East Singhbhum was also made.

Other approved proposals include the continuation of the Women’s Helpline 181 services, an extension of the Jharnet 2.0 project, the establishment of an independent panel of experts under the Dam Safety Act, and the adoption of a hybrid model for implementation in the Forest Department. The cabinet also formally approved the appointment of Advocate Rohitashya Rai as the Advocate General of Jharkhand.
