Jharkhand Assembly Monsoon Session Begins with Tribute and Flood Relief Announcement

Ranchi, August 6: The monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly commenced on Thursday with a motion of condolence. The house paid tribute to former ministers, ex-legislators, prominent figures from various fields, martyrs, and individuals who lost their lives in different incidents since the last session. All members observed two minutes of silence to pray for the peace of the departed souls.

Tributes were paid to former Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Madhav Lal Singh, former Animal Husbandry Minister Mannan Malik, ex-legislators Beni Prasad Gupta and Hari Ram, former Mining Minister Lakshman Ram, and former Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy.

Additionally, the assembly remembered Dr. D.Y. Patil, former Chief Minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, singer Asha Bhosle, poet Bashir Badr, constitutional expert Subhash Kashyap, senior journalist H.K. Dua, folk artist Teejan Bai, shooter Jaspal Rana, cricketer Gopinath, Khoratha litterateur Suresh Vishwakarma, and Jharkhand activist Krishna Kumar Mahto and Damu Bandra.

The assembly also paid homage to soldiers who lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur. The tragic incidents of road accidents in Udhampur, a fire in Lucknow, the Assam floods, and the suicides of students following the NEET exam controversy were also remembered.

During the proceedings, it was announced that the Jharkhand government would provide ₹3 crore in assistance to the flood-affected victims in Assam. While discussing the condolence motion, MLA Nirmal Kumar raised concerns about deaths in his constituency due to road accidents, elephant attacks, lightning strikes, and mining collapses. He urged the government to provide financial aid to the families affected by these incidents.

Following the condolence motion, a slight political tone emerged in the assembly. Opposition leader Babulal Marandi, along with MLA Naveen Jaiswal and several other opposition members, entered the house wearing masks, prompting some light-hearted remarks from the ruling party. Chief Minister Hemant Soren also made a subtle jab at the opposition, although his full comments were not clearly audible.
