First Tamir Interceptor Made in the U.S. Delivered to Israel, Enhancing Security

Arkansas, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : The first ‘Tamir’ interceptor, entirely manufactured in the United States, has been officially handed over to Israel. This interceptor is a key component of the Iron Dome missile defense system and was produced at a Raytheon-Rafael facility in East Camden, Arkansas.

According to a spokesperson from Israel’s Ministry of Defense, the interceptor was delivered during a ceremony at the Raytheon-Rafael Area Protection Systems (R2S) factory. This event marks a significant step in the U.S.-Israel defense collaboration, as the interceptor will be utilized by the Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), part of the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D).

The factory in Camden was specifically established to manufacture the ‘Tamir’ interceptor, which has proven crucial in protecting Israel from various threats, especially during recent regional conflicts. This facility represents the first location outside of Israel where the complete ‘Tamir’ interceptor is being produced.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense emphasized that this factory symbolizes the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Israel in missile defense. It is expected to boost cooperation between the defense industries of both nations, create jobs in the U.S., and enhance American security and the defense industrial base.

Moshe Patel, director of the IMDO, remarked during the ceremony that Israel’s multi-tiered missile defense system, particularly the Iron Dome, has repeatedly demonstrated its vital role in saving lives and reducing damage from various threats in recent years.

Shlomo Toef, Executive Vice President and Head of the Air and Missile Defense Division at Rafael, noted the initial skepticism surrounding the development of the Iron Dome. He stated that the engineers proved the doubters wrong, as the system has achieved over 10,000 successful interceptions since its first operational deployment 15 years ago, saving countless lives, with the ‘Tamir’ interceptor at its core.
