Kangana Ranaut Seeks Delhi High Courts Protection for Personality Rights

New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Kangana Ranaut, a BJP Member of Parliament, has taken her fight for personality rights to the Delhi High Court. She seeks protection against the unauthorized use of her name, identity, and image, particularly concerning inappropriate and explicit content circulating on digital platforms.

In her petition, Ranaut asserts that her identity is being exploited without her consent, including the dissemination of offensive material linked to her name. Justice Vikas Mahajan has issued summons to the relevant parties in response to her application. The court has also acknowledged her request for an interim injunction to remove the objectionable content from online platforms.

During the hearing, Ranaut’s attorney expressed concern over the explicit and derogatory content posted about her on social media. The court requested the lawyer to identify the parties responsible for the content in question. Additionally, the court has instructed Ranaut to submit a revised list of defendants after removing certain parties from the case.

The next hearing is scheduled for February 3, 2027. This legal action comes at a time when the Delhi High Court is witnessing a surge in cases involving the unauthorized use of names, images, voices, and identities of public figures. Notably, issues related to AI-generated fake videos, deepfakes, and the commercial exploitation of individuals’ identities have prompted numerous celebrities to seek legal recourse.

In recent months, various prominent figures, including former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, ex-captain Sunil Gavaskar, and spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, have also approached the court to protect their identities and images. Other notable personalities such as actors Arjun Kapoor, Allu Arjun, Nagarjuna, Varun Dhawan, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Abhishek Bachchan have joined this growing list of plaintiffs, along with singer Jubin Nautiyal, filmmaker Karan Johar, and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
