Mumbai, June 20: A shocking incident has emerged involving filmmaker and fashion stylist Rhea Anil Kapoor. A case of jewelry theft has been reported, prompting the Sahar Police Station in Mumbai to register a complaint against unknown individuals and initiate an investigation.
According to the police complaint, diamond-studded earrings worth ₹1.35 crore were stolen from the handbag of Rhea Kapoor’s makeup artist while traveling to a fashion show in New York. The earrings had been rented from Mehta and Goyenka Jewelers in Mumbai. Savleen Singh, a renowned makeup artist who has worked with Rhea for the past seven years, was responsible for the jewelry. Rhea was invited to the prestigious “Met Gala” fashion event on April 29, and her entire team was set to accompany her.
For the event, two pairs of expensive earrings were rented from Mehta and Goyenka Jewelers. Savleen Singh had placed both jewelry boxes in her handbag. The team departed Mumbai on an Emirates flight on the night of April 27 at 10:25 PM. They arrived at New York’s Kennedy Airport on April 28 at 5:30 PM, after a layover in Dubai. Upon reaching their hotel, Pier New York, Savleen discovered that both boxes were empty when she opened them to hand over the earrings to Rhea.
The gold earrings with emerald-stone diamonds from Mehta Jewelers were valued at ₹66 lakh, while the gold earrings with Zambian stone borders from Goyenka Jewelers were worth ₹69 lakh. After returning to Mumbai, Savleen filed a complaint at the Sahar Police Station. The police have registered a case of theft and have begun their investigation.
Authorities have confirmed that an FIR has been filed based on Savleen Singh’s complaint. The stolen earrings, valued at ₹1.35 crore, went missing while traveling with Rhea Kapoor’s team to New York. The police are currently reviewing the timeline from the airport to the hotel to determine whether the theft occurred at Mumbai Airport, during the flight, or after their arrival in New York.
