Mumbai, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Renowned screenwriter Javed Akhtar has recently addressed a false message circulating on social media that attributes criticism of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) to him. In a detailed note posted on his “X” account, Akhtar firmly dismissed claims suggesting he criticized CJP’s founder, Abhijit Dipek.
“I, Javed Akhtar, want to inform everyone that the fake message circulating on social media, claiming that I criticized CJP and made derogatory remarks about Abhijit Dipek, is completely untrue,” he stated.
Akhtar expressed his astonishment that those opposing Dipek and CJP felt the need to borrow credibility from him. “What has happened? It’s unfortunate,” he added.
The misleading message alleged that the celebrated lyricist and screenwriter had disparaged Dipek and the CJP, referring to Dipek as a “puppet” of Arvind Kejriwal and accusing CJP of pursuing an anti-BJP agenda.
In response to recent events, Dipek’s CJP has launched a new protest campaign demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This movement began on October 2 in Mumbai, where hundreds gathered at Shivaji Park despite police denying permission for the demonstration.
CJP is opposing the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, alleging irregularities in the process. The Election Commission maintains that the revision aims to remove duplicate, deceased, and ineligible voters while preserving eligible ones.
The campaign is set to extend to other cities, including Goa, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Dipek has announced plans to return to Delhi, stating that if the Chief Election Commissioner does not resign, a protest will be held at Jantar Mantar on October 10. Notably, Delhi police detained several protesters during an earlier demonstration on October 4.
