Political Firestorm Erupts Over Sanjay Dutts Comments on Peace in India

Mumbai, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Actor Sanjay Dutt‘s recent statement, expressing that “peace in India is not what it used to be,” has ignited a political uproar. This controversy unfolded during a guest appearance on Shekhar Suman‘s talk show, “Shekhar Tonight,” coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. Dutt remarked on the need for peace in the country, stating, “I no longer feel that peace in our nation.”

In response, Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole backed Dutt’s comments, asserting that the actor accurately reflected the current state of affairs in India. Patole emphasized, “Sanjay Dutt is absolutely right. Under the BJP’s rule, daylight murders are occurring, and people do not feel safe. His statement should alert the central government and BJP-led state administrations to the rising lawlessness.”

Conversely, BJP leader Parinay Fuke sharply criticized Dutt. He suggested that the actor had lost touch with reality, remarking, “Perhaps he feels peaceful in Pakistan or Yerwada Jail. Given his age, he should consider taking a pilgrimage to find peace. If he cannot find it here, he should go to Pakistan.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey also disagreed with Dutt’s sentiments. He stated, “Sanjay Dutt’s statement is incorrect. The entire nation knows that India is peaceful and moving towards a better future. This country has struggled significantly since independence, and it is everyone’s responsibility to maintain it.”

Dutt’s comments quickly gained traction on social media, prompting discussions about the implications of his statement regarding the country’s current conditions and government. The backlash led Dutt to clarify his remarks on social media, stating, “I want to make it clear that I never intended to hurt the feelings of any individual, community, or institution. My comments were made in the context of a scripted conversation meant to create a light-hearted atmosphere. The intention was inspired by the ‘Gandhigiri’ philosophy of Munna Bhai, promoting love, unity, and goodwill. Unfortunately, my words were misinterpreted.”
