Delhi Police Denies Allegations of Violence Against Female Protesters

Delhi Police refutes claims of violence against female protesters, calling the allegations baseless and misleading.

New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, the Delhi Police issued an official clarification on October 5 regarding claims of violence against female protesters during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The police stated that allegations of physical assault on women protesters are “baseless and misleading.”

According to the police, female officers manage the female protesters, treating them with dignity and respect. This statement comes amidst accusations from several women who reported mistreatment during the protest. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for New Delhi addressed these allegations on social media, emphasizing that claims of physical violence against female protesters have been dismissed as unfounded.

The police further clarified their procedures regarding detentions and releases, asserting that any actions taken were in accordance with the law and established protocols. The DCP noted that male protesters who were detained were also released in compliance with legal processes.

Previously, three female journalists alleged mistreatment by Delhi Police officers during their detention on October 3. The police reported that they received complaints from the journalists and have transferred the matter to the Crime Branch for a thorough investigation.

On October 3, during the demonstration in New Delhi, the three journalists accused police officers of sexual harassment. The validity of these allegations is currently under investigation. DCP Neha Yadav stated that despite the enforcement of prohibitory orders in the area, protesters from AISA and other groups demonstrated against the SIR on that day.

Protesters were informed about the prohibitory orders and warned to disperse. Those who failed to comply were taken into custody. Around 6 PM, the three women, identifying themselves as journalists, reported alleged mistreatment during their detention. Their complaints were acknowledged, and medical examinations were conducted before being forwarded to the Crime Branch.

The police also urged individuals with video evidence of the incident to share it with the Crime Branch for further investigation.
