Election Commission Labels Rahul Gandhis Claims on Form 6 as Misleading

New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Election Commission of India has deemed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent claims about Form 6 misleading. Gandhi took to social media platform X, accusing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of making “illegal and unilateral” changes to the voter registration form. He suggested that these alterations were intended to benefit the BJP, alleging an abuse of power.

In response to Gandhi’s accusations, the Election Commission issued a fact-check, labeling his statements as “misleading.” Gandhi asserted that it is now “beyond doubt” that Kumar tampered with Form 6 in a way that violates legal standards, further alleging that this constitutes another instance of power misuse to favor the BJP.

He emphasized the need for accountability for Kumar and others involved in what he termed a “criminal attack on democracy.” Alongside his claims, Gandhi shared a portion of a press note from the Election Commission, which clarified that the declaration associated with Form 6 for the Special Interest Registration (SIR) had been upheld by the Supreme Court. The Commission also noted that during non-SIR periods, the rules for the Registration of Electors, 1960, would apply.

Following Gandhi’s remarks, the Election Commission responded on X, reiterating that his statements were misleading. The Commission confirmed that the order regarding SIR in Bihar, dated June 24, 2025, was issued with unanimous approval and upheld by the Supreme Court in a decision made on May 27, 2026.

Moreover, the Election Commission clarified that its press note from September 26, 2026, explicitly stated that the declaration attached to Form 6 for SIR had been maintained by the Supreme Court. Thus, the Commission rejected Gandhi’s assertion that the related decision was made unilaterally.

Gandhi had previously raised concerns about the Election Commission on October 1, questioning the legitimacy of changes made to the online Form 6. He claimed that the Commission’s own commissioners had documented these issues. Additionally, he questioned the role of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), asking who authorized TCS to modify the online form and whether there was any pressure involved in these changes.

By revisiting the Form 6 issue, Gandhi has directly targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, while the Election Commission continues to assert that his statements are misleading. The Commission has confirmed that the order regarding Bihar’s SIR was issued with unanimous consent.
