Shimla, June 19: Jairam Thakur, the Leader of the Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly, has accused the Congress party of politicizing the NEET paper leak issue. He stated that Congress should reflect on the number of paper leaks that occurred during their governance.
Speaking in Shimla, Thakur expressed his belief that the NEET paper leak has created a wave of discontent across the country. He emphasized that the central government has taken serious and stringent measures in response. The Prime Minister’s serious approach to the matter and the actions against the accused are commendable. He criticized Congress for attempting to frame the issue from an economic perspective, which he finds inappropriate. Thakur pointed out that in states governed by Congress, numerous paper leaks have occurred.
He highlighted that in Rajasthan, the Congress government has faced around 22 paper leaks, while Chhattisgarh has seen approximately 18 incidents. Referring to a recent police recruitment exam in Himachal Pradesh, he noted that officials reported widespread cheating in the examination hall. Despite calls to annul the exam, the police and government suppressed the issue. Thakur mentioned that when 20 individuals gathered to solve the paper, it exemplified the extent of the malpractice.
Thakur recalled that during his government, when a police recruitment exam paper was leaked, they promptly announced its cancellation at 8:30 AM. An SIT was formed, and he later transferred the investigation to the CBI when he felt the police were not handling it properly. He criticized the current government for promoting officials who should have faced action based on the CBI investigation. He demanded accountability from the Chief Minister and the Youth Congress regarding these matters.
He further criticized the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh for its handling of law and order, citing numerous incidents that have left citizens feeling unsafe. He mentioned ongoing gunfire in Una and the tragic murder of a 19-year-old girl in Sarkaghat. He also referred to a recent incident involving a woman from Shimla, who had expressed her fears for her safety in writing and recorded a video asking for police protection.
Thakur lamented that had the Congress leaders acted in time, the woman might still be alive today. He accused the government of prioritizing political issues over law and order, leading to a pervasive atmosphere of despair in Himachal Pradesh that the state government must acknowledge.
