Guwahati, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : On October 1, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to the state’s police force during the celebration of Assam Police Day. He commended the officers for their round-the-clock dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma highlighted that the citizens of Assam can live peacefully due to the constant vigilance of police officers who are on duty day and night. “The people of Assam are at peace because there are uniformed personnel guarding them 24/7,” he stated.
The Chief Minister saluted every officer and member of the Assam Police for their courage, compassion, and unwavering sense of duty to the state. He expressed pride in their service, saying, “We are proud of you.”
Assam Police Day serves to recognize the contributions and sacrifices of the police force, emphasizing its crucial role in maintaining law and order, ensuring citizen safety, and addressing security challenges.
The Assam Police has a rich history, operating in a complex security environment that includes tackling insurgency, border management, organized crime, drug trafficking, and various law enforcement challenges.
In recent years, the police force has expanded its focus beyond traditional policing methods. There has been a greater emphasis on community engagement, technology-based policing, cybercrime prevention, and emergency response.
This message from the Chief Minister comes at a time when Assam continues to strengthen its policing and security framework, given its strategic position near the borders of Bhutan and Bangladesh, as well as its proximity to several northeastern states.
In addition to crime prevention and investigation, the Assam Police plays a vital role in maintaining security during elections, large public events, and natural disasters.
