Chatra, June 27: A tragic incident occurred in Chatra district, Jharkhand, where an old rivalry led to the murder of a young man during a Muharram procession. The attack also left the victim’s uncle seriously injured, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
Police officials reported that the incident took place late Friday night in Godhai village, within the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station. During the Muharram procession, assailants brazenly entered a home to carry out the brutal killing. The uncle, who attempted to intervene, was also stabbed and severely wounded.
Witnesses revealed that during the procession, the attackers stopped the DJ and entered a house under the pretense of asking for water. They then began searching for the young man, Shahjahan. Upon finding him, the assailants attacked his thigh with a sickle and a dagger, causing severe injuries and significant blood loss.
When the uncle, Shabeer Miyan, saw his nephew bleeding, he rushed to help, only to be stabbed multiple times in the chest. Shabeer received 13 stitches (9 on one side and 4 on the other) and is currently being treated in Hazaribagh. Tragically, Shahjahan succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Ranchi for better medical care.
A local resident stated that both the victim and the accused were neighbors. A dispute had reignited around 11 PM, leading to the fatal confrontation. Family members noted that just three days prior, there had been an argument between Shahjahan and the accused families regarding children. A meeting was scheduled to resolve the issue after Muharram, but the murder occurred before it could take place.
Sadar police station chief Avadhesh Singh confirmed that the identified suspects, a father-son duo named Farhan and Faizan, are being pursued based on the family’s complaint. The police are conducting a thorough investigation and working to apprehend the accused.
