Tehran, September 2: In response to recent US airstrikes, Iran has initiated its own attacks. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that countermeasures have been taken against American bases and assets in the region.
On Tuesday night, the IRGC released a statement through its official news outlet, Sepah News, indicating that its retaliation against the attackers has begun. The IRGC claimed that its air defense system successfully shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone.
The IRGC reported that its aerospace forces targeted Camp Titin in Jordan and Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain with ballistic missiles and drones. The organization asserted that these strikes resulted in significant casualties among US troops, as well as the destruction of critical military facilities and combat helicopters.
Additionally, the IRGC warned that the recent US attacks could prolong the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, it stated that Iranian armed forces would become more resolute in countering foreign interventions.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the IRGC claimed that the US had attacked several civilian sites in southern Iran. This action was described as a desperate measure following an alleged US strike on a wedding ceremony in Hormozgan province.
The Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) later reported that their air defense system intercepted 10 out of 13 ballistic missiles launched from Iran on Tuesday evening.
Jordan noted that the remaining three missiles fell in unpopulated areas, with no casualties reported.
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency cited Ahmad Nafisi, the deputy governor for political and security affairs in Hormozgan province, stating that at least five people were killed in the US attack on the wedding ceremony in Sirik County. Among the deceased were a four-year-old child and a woman, with over 50 individuals reported injured.
Explosions were heard in several areas of southern Iran on Tuesday evening. During this time, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced via social media platform X that it had begun strikes on IRGC positions.
Iranian media reported that the sounds of explosions were heard in multiple regions, including Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Kish, Jask, Konarak, Chabahar, Ziroft, and Asaluyeh.
Iran’s main military command, Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, issued a statement declaring that Iranian armed forces would deliver a “strong and decisive response” to US airstrikes. The statement emphasized that Iran would continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its security and national interests.
