Tehran, February 25: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, has expressed the country’s desire to reach a “fair and equal” agreement with the United States as soon as possible. He emphasized that both nations have a historic opportunity to forge an unprecedented deal.
Araghchi made these remarks on the social media platform X, ahead of the third round of indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, scheduled to take place in Geneva on Thursday. According to Xinhua News Agency, the two countries have previously engaged in two rounds of discussions.
He stated, “Based on the understanding reached in the last round, Iran will resume talks with the U.S. in Geneva with the firm intention of achieving a fair and equal deal in the shortest time possible.”
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s unwavering stance: “Under no circumstances will Iran ever develop nuclear weapons; nor will we relinquish our right to utilize peaceful nuclear technology for the benefits of the Iranian people.”
He highlighted that both sides have a “historic opportunity” to address mutual concerns and achieve shared interests. He also noted that prioritizing diplomacy could pave the way for a successful agreement.
This statement comes at a time when the U.S. has recently increased its military presence in the Middle East. The two rounds of indirect nuclear talks have already covered issues such as Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of U.S. sanctions.
On Tuesday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi, stated that Iran is prepared to do “whatever it takes” to reach a nuclear agreement with the U.S. In an interview with NPR Radio, he affirmed that Iran will approach the Geneva talks with sincerity and a positive mindset.
He expressed hope that the U.S. would adopt a similarly constructive attitude. He believes that if there is political will among all parties, an agreement could be reached swiftly.
Meanwhile, during a meeting in Tehran with Armenia’s Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, Iran’s Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh asserted that the country is fully prepared for its defense and remains committed to its resolve to protect itself.
