New Delhi, April 5: In the eighth match of IPL 2026, the Delhi Capitals (DC) showcased an impressive performance at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets. The star of the match was Sameer Rizvi, who delivered a remarkable innings, scoring 90 runs off 51 balls.

Sameer was brought in as an impact player for this match. He played aggressively, achieving a strike rate of 176, hitting seven fours and seven sixes. With this innings, he became the third player in IPL history to score the highest runs as an impact player, breaking Karun Nair’s record. Nair had previously scored 89 runs as an impact player against the Mumbai Indians in 2025.

The record for the highest innings by an impact player is held by Sai Sudharsan, who scored an unbeaten 108 runs against the Delhi Capitals in 2025. Jos Buttler is also notable for his second-highest innings as an impact player, scoring an unbeaten 107 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024.

Chasing a target of 163 runs set by the Mumbai Indians, the Delhi Capitals did not start well. KL Rahul was dismissed for just one run, and Nitish Rana returned to the pavilion without scoring. Facing a challenging situation at 7 runs with two wickets down, the partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Sameer Rizvi steadied the innings.

The duo formed a crucial partnership of 66 runs for the third wicket. Nissanka scored 44 runs off 30 balls before getting out. However, Sameer remained steadfast, ensuring that MI had no chance of making a comeback. David Miller finished the innings with 21 runs off 18 balls, while Tristan Stubbs remained not out with three runs. This victory marks the second consecutive win for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026, propelling them to the top of the points table.
