HR Officer Arrested for Sexual Harassment in Nashik Tech Firm

Mumbai, April 10: An HR officer from a tech company in Nashik, Maharashtra, has been arrested in connection with allegations of sexual harassment and molestation.

The officer, Ashwini Ashok Chainani, was taken into custody from Lulla Nagar in Pune. Initial investigations revealed that no action was taken on the victims’ complaints, and he had been evading responsibility. However, a thorough report emerged following further inquiries.

Police are interrogating him regarding the alleged misconduct towards female employees at the company and the apparent inaction on their complaints.

The shocking incidents of harassment at the tech office, located just 200 kilometers from Mumbai, have sent shockwaves through both the police and district administration.

Following complaints of sexual harassment and forced religious conversion, police have taken action, arresting seven individuals. Among those arrested is a seventh suspect who works in the HR department and resides in Pune.

Multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed at various police stations, leading to the arrests.

According to the complainants, they faced sexual harassment for about 3-4 years and were threatened with severe consequences if they reported the incidents. They also endured repeated intimidation and religious humiliation.

In light of the severity of the crimes, the state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the complaints of harassment and conversion.

Most of the complainants are reported to be aged between 18 and 25 and come from impoverished backgrounds. The accused allegedly exploited their financial vulnerabilities, subjecting them to continuous harassment and obscene behavior. They did not expect to be questioned or apprehended.

Some victims filed formal complaints with the HR department under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act of 2013, but they claim no action was taken.

The police arrested the HR officer for suppressing ongoing harassment at the workplace and ignoring the complaints.
