Kolkata, April 10: An exciting match took place at Eden Gardens on Thursday, where the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced off against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026. LSG emerged victorious by three wickets, thanks to Mukul Chaudhary’s explosive batting performance. However, a controversial catch taken by LSG spinner Digvijesh Rathi during KKR’s innings raised questions.
After the match, Rovman Powell expressed that the decision should have been referred to the third umpire. In the post-match press conference, he stated, “It was a significant mistake on their part, but we won’t dwell on it or claim we lost two points tonight. However, the on-field umpires should have sent the decision to the third umpire.”
The second over of KKR’s innings was bowled by Prince Yadav. On the fourth ball, he delivered a back-of-a-length delivery, which Finn Allen attempted to hit over the line but ended up with a top edge. The ball went towards third man, where Rathi was positioned. It appeared that the ball would travel far, but Rathi managed to steady himself near the boundary line and caught it with both hands. The umpires seemed satisfied with the decision, and Allen was given out. The call was not sent to the third umpire, and later replays suggested that Rathi may have stepped on the cushion. However, the replays did not provide conclusive evidence.
Finn Allen was dismissed for 9 runs off 8 balls.
Reflecting on the loss at home, Powell remarked, “It’s very disappointing. You want to make Kolkata, and Eden Gardens your fortress. This is your home, where your fans support you. Winning at home is always special. Unfortunately, we couldn’t achieve that tonight.”
Powell also praised Mukul Chaudhary’s batting performance.
In terms of the match, KKR batted first, scoring 181 runs. LSG chased down the target, with Mukul Chaudhary scoring an unbeaten 54 runs off 27 balls, including 7 sixes, leading LSG to victory by three wickets.
