New Chandigarh, April 1: Punjab Kings kicked off their IPL 2026 campaign with a thrilling victory. The team secured a win against Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets in a match held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday. Cooper Connolly played a stunning innings, scoring an unbeaten 72 runs off 44 balls.

After losing the toss, Gujarat Titans batted first and managed to score 162 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Sai Sudharsan partnered with captain Shubman Gill to add 37 runs for the first wicket in just 3.4 overs. Sudharsan was dismissed for 13 runs, after which Gill formed a solid partnership of 46 runs with Jos Buttler for the second wicket.

Gill scored 39 runs off 27 balls, hitting 6 fours before returning to the pavilion. Buttler then added 36 runs with Glenn Phillips, helping the team cross the century mark. Buttler scored 38 runs, while Phillips contributed 25 runs. Washington Sundar also chipped in with 18 runs.

From the opposition, Vijaykumar Vaishak was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets, while Yuzvendra Chahal claimed 2 wickets. Marco Jansen took 1 wicket.

In response, Punjab Kings achieved their target in 19.1 overs. They lost Priyansh Arya for just 7 runs. Connolly then formed a crucial partnership of 76 runs off 49 balls with Prabhsimran Singh for the second wicket, bringing the score to 83.

Prabhsimran scored 37 runs off 24 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 1 four before getting out. Connolly then partnered with captain Shreyas Iyer, adding 27 runs for the third wicket. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Connolly remained steadfast.

He also added 26 runs with Marco Jansen (9) and 21 runs with Javier Bartlett (not out 11). Connolly finished the match with a remarkable 72 runs, hitting 5 sixes and 5 fours. From the opposing side, Prasidh Krishna took 3 wickets, while Kagiso Rabada, Ashok Sharma, Rashid Khan, and Washington Sundar each took 1 wicket.
