Chief Minister Yogi to Launch 250 Electric and CNG Vehicles, Enhancing Waste Management in Lucknow

Lucknow, April 1: A significant initiative aimed at strengthening and modernizing waste management in Lucknow is set to take place on Wednesday, April 1. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate 250 electric and CNG vehicles from his official residence at 11 AM. This initiative is seen as a crucial step towards promoting green energy and achieving sustainable development goals.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has implemented a comprehensive system to ensure 100% collection, transportation, and processing of waste from homes, commercial establishments, and offices across all 110 wards of the city. This operation is being managed through selected agencies, with daily monitoring in place. The waste collection activities can be monitored live from the Municipal Corporation’s command and control room. Additionally, citizens can register complaints for quick resolutions by calling control room number 1533 or toll-free numbers 18001234999 and 1800206172.
The Municipal Corporation is prioritizing the phased removal of diesel-powered vehicles in waste collection, replacing them with electric and CNG vehicles. This transition is expected to reduce air pollution and ensure a cleaner and healthier environment in the city. This policy aligns with sustainable development principles and is considered an effective measure to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Currently, waste collection in Lucknow is being carried out using 981 electric and 169 CNG vehicles. Furthermore, the cleaning of major roads in the city is conducted daily using over 50 mechanized road sweeping machines (electric vehicles). The addition of the new 250 vehicles is anticipated to enhance the efficiency and strength of the waste management system.
To facilitate the smooth operation of electric vehicles, 520 charging points have been established at 13 locations throughout the city. This infrastructure will not only improve vehicle efficiency but also lay the groundwork for the future operation of more electric vehicles.
This entire initiative is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for approximately 10,000 people. Additionally, with a focus on the circular economy, the concept of ‘Waste to Wealth’ is gaining traction, promoting the use of waste as a resource.
The steps taken by the Municipal Corporation will not only aid in making the city cleaner and pollution-free but also increase the chances of better performance in the upcoming cleanliness survey. This initiative could serve as a milestone in establishing Lucknow as an ideal ‘Sustainable Urban Model.’
