Ghaziabad, August 25: A delegation of approximately 70 senior government officials and civil society representatives from Kenya, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, and Senegal visited Ghaziabad to understand the Nipun Bharat Mission under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This initiative aims to enhance basic education and children’s learning capabilities in India, making it a subject of international peer learning.
The representatives observed classroom teaching in 11 municipal schools to grasp the ground-level implementation of Nipun Bharat policies. The week-long peer-learning immersion program, running from August 23 to 27, involved dividing the delegation into small groups to tour schools in the Nagar, Rajapur, Loni, and Muradnagar blocks of Ghaziabad.
During their visit, the delegates witnessed the teaching-learning process in classrooms and engaged in discussions with students, teachers, principals, Academic Resource Persons (ARPs), and officials from the state resource group. This study tour provided an opportunity for international sharing of experiences regarding the implementation of foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) reforms under the Nipun Bharat Mission in Uttar Pradesh. The program’s goal is to understand and share experiences related to FLN reforms in India.
Through direct observation of classroom teaching and technical discussions with education officials, the delegates closely examined the ground-level execution of FLN reforms. Following the school visits, a detailed technical discussion took place with the Uttar Pradesh Education Department, involving the district magistrate, chief development officer, basic education officer, block education officer, and members of the state resource group. The discussions covered curriculum and learning objectives, structured teaching-learning materials, teacher guidance and mentoring, assessment, and the use of data. The role of the middle tier in implementing reforms on a larger scale was also addressed.
During the school visits, the representatives learned how the policies and FLN reforms developed under the Nipun Bharat Mission are being implemented at the classroom level. They gained insights into the teaching process, academic collaboration, and experiences related to children’s learning through direct communication with students and teachers.
It is noteworthy that the Lighthouse India immersion program is hosted by the Central Square Foundation, India’s anchor lighthouse organization. The program is supported by Centro Lemon and the Language and Learning Foundation, with funding from the Global School Forum, Optima, and the Gates Foundation.
