Kolkata, June 12: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing increasing internal dissent, according to party MP Sougata Roy. He stated that some MPs claim they have not signed any documents, yet their names are being used. Roy emphasized that the ongoing situation is unethical and wrong.
In an interview, Sougata Roy remarked, “Some individuals are saying they did not sign, yet their names are being utilized. A list of signatures is circulating in the media. It remains unclear how many MPs—18, 19, or 20—have actually signed. Discussions are ongoing regarding a two-thirds majority formula, but I have no interest in that. I just want to say that what they are doing is unethical and wrong.”
He added, “All these MPs were elected under the Trinamool Congress symbol. Party leader Mamata Banerjee campaigned for them, and the party provided full support. What has suddenly changed that they are considering leaving the party? They are meeting with Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and planning to meet Home Minister Amit Shah. Such occurrences should not happen in politics. This is all happening due to ‘Operation Lotus,’ as the BJP is trying to increase its numbers.”
Sougata Roy pointed out, “On one hand, Samik Bhattacharya is hospitalized due to health issues, while on the other hand, Suvendu Adhikari appears quite active. He visited Shatabdi Roy’s residence in the evening and later met with some dissatisfied leaders in Kolkata. It seems he is attempting to advance ‘Operation Lotus’ in some way.”
Meanwhile, three pages bearing the signatures of 19 TMC Lok Sabha MPs have surfaced, claiming to represent the party’s main and majority group in the Lok Sabha. However, it remains unclear whether these pages are part of the alleged letter submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office by MPs under the leadership of Kakoli Ghosh and Shatabdi Roy.
The first signature on these documents is reportedly that of Kakoli Ghosh, followed by Shatabdi Roy. However, the authenticity of these three pages and the signatures of the 19 MPs has not been independently verified.
Among the other Lok Sabha members whose signatures appear on the three pages are Bapi Halder from Mathurapur, Sharmila Sarkar from Bardhaman East, Prasun Banerjee from Howrah, Jagdish Verma Basunia from Cooch Behar, Asit Mal from Bolpur, Arup Chakraborty from Bankura, Kalipada Soren from Jhargram, Deepak Adhikari alias Dev from Ghatal, Jun Maliya from Medinipur, Partha Bhowmik from Barrackpore, Khalilur Rahman from Jangipur, Tahir Khan from Murshidabad, Yusuf Pathan from Baharampur, Mithali Bag from Arambagh, Mala Roy from Kolkata (South), Rachana Banerjee from Hooghly, and Sayoni Ghosh from Jadavpur.
