Dont Ignore Cold Symptoms: It Could Be H1N1

New Delhi, August 29: As the weather changes, common ailments like colds, coughs, and fevers become prevalent. One such concern is Influenza A (H1N1). In healthy adults, this infection often resolves on its own. However, ignoring its symptoms can be risky, especially for children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently shared information on social media platform X, highlighting that the most common symptoms of H1N1 include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, body or muscle aches, and fatigue. Some individuals may also experience nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Not everyone will exhibit all symptoms, and it can sometimes initially feel like a regular flu or viral infection.

It’s crucial to pay attention to your body’s signals. If you experience significant pain and weakness along with fever or cough, ensure you get plenty of rest and stay hydrated. Keep drinking water, soup, or other suitable fluids to prevent dehydration. Resting aids the body in fighting off the infection.

To prevent respiratory infections like H1N1, adopting a few simple daily habits is essential. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of used tissues properly and wash your hands afterward. If you feel unwell, stay home and avoid contact with others to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

Monitoring your health during illness is also important. If symptoms persist for 5-6 days, worsen, or do not improve, consult a doctor. It is especially crucial for young children, the elderly, and those with other health issues to seek medical advice promptly. If necessary, you can also reach out to the nearest government health center.
