New Delhi, June 10: In a significant move to bolster the capabilities of the Indian Navy and promote the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, the Ministry of Defence has signed a crucial contract for the purchase of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) jammers. The deal, valued at ₹449 crore, was finalized with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL). Notably, this project will utilize at least 75% indigenous materials.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence, the contract was signed on June 10, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in the national capital. This procurement falls under the ‘Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)’ category, aimed at promoting defense systems developed and manufactured within the country.
The statement highlighted that this advanced system is capable of degrading the signal reception and tracking capabilities of enemy Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers. Additionally, it can confuse adversaries using advanced techniques such as signal spoofing and deceptive jamming.
In simple terms, this system will enhance the security of naval vessels by disrupting enemy navigation and targeting systems.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the deployment of these jammer systems will assist Indian Navy warships in operating safely and effectively in multi-threat environments. Electronic warfare capabilities are deemed crucial in modern maritime combat, and this system represents a significant step in that direction.
This contract will not only strengthen India’s maritime security framework but also accelerate the development of indigenous technology in the defense sector. The government believes that such projects will play a vital role in making the country self-reliant in defense equipment and reducing foreign dependency.
