PM Shri Schools to Launch Soon in West Bengal, Says Sukanta Majumdar

Kolkata, August 28: Central Education State Minister Sukanta Majumdar announced on Thursday that the PM Shri School project will soon be launched in West Bengal to enhance the education system. The school will be established in Malda district.

Majumdar made this announcement during the inauguration of the new building of the Central School located in Aradhapur, Old Malda.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by BJP MP Khagen Murmu, BJP MLAs Gopal Chandra Saha and Chinmoy Deb Barman, District Magistrate Rajbir Singh Kapoor, and several officials from the Border Security Force (BSF). The Central School in Aradhapur, Old Malda, is primarily operated by BSF officers.

Officials and soldiers’ families reside in the large BSF complex nearby, while some families live in rented accommodations outside. A school was established in Aradhapur for their children’s education.

Later, the central government acquired the school, and it has been a fully developed Central School for the past few years. The school was operating in an old building until the Ministry of Education decided to construct a new building, which was inaugurated today.

Speaking at the event, Majumdar stated that the school previously operated in a dilapidated structure. He mentioned that the infrastructure built here is among the best in Central Schools. He further noted that a notification for establishing a Navodaya Vidyalaya (PM Shri School) in Malda district will be issued in the next two to three weeks.

He explained that the central government has been trying to establish this school for a long time, but the previous state government hesitated to provide land, causing delays. Ultimately, the new state government allocated the land.

After the event, Majumdar addressed the media, stating that this year’s budget includes plans to establish over 70 new Central Schools across the country, with work already underway.

He added that there are currently over 12,000 Central Schools operating nationwide, which will be transformed into PM Shri Schools (Schools for Emerging India) in the future. State governments are also being allocated PM Shri Schools.
