
Bangkok, June 30: India’s Ambassador to Thailand, Puneet Agrawal, met with Shombi Sharp, the Deputy Executive Secretary for Partnership and Coordination at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), on Tuesday. The two parties discussed enhancing cooperation between India and UNESCAP.
The discussions emphasized leveraging both parties’ expertise in key areas such as trade, digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, and disaster risk reduction.
The Indian Embassy in Thailand shared a post on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Ambassador Puneet Agrawal had an introductory meeting with Shombi Sharp, Deputy Executive Secretary for Partnership and Coordination at UNESCAP. Ideas were exchanged on enhancing cooperation between India and UNESCAP, particularly focusing on utilizing expertise in trade, digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, and disaster risk reduction.”
Earlier in April, an Indian delegation participated in the 82nd session of UNESCAP, which focused on the theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Advancing Inclusive Societies for All Ages in Asia and the Pacific.”
During this session, the Indian delegation actively presented its views and highlighted India’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and strong collaboration with UNESCAP in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Indian Embassy noted on ‘X’, “The 82nd session of UNESCAP, based on the theme of advancing inclusive societies for all ages in the Asia and Pacific region, concluded today in Bangkok. The Indian delegation actively participated and contributed constructively to the discussions, emphasizing India’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and strong cooperation with UNESCAP in implementing SDGs.”
India has maintained a long-standing strong relationship with UNESCAP. The country provides voluntary economic cooperation to UNESCAP’s regional entities and supports capacity development programs that promote technology exchange.
UNESCAP’s Asia and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology and its sub-regional office for South and South-West Asia are also located in India.
