Indian Language Summer Camp Initiative by Education Ministry

New Delhi, May 10: The Central Ministry of Education is set to organize a special summer camp for students across the country. This initiative focuses on promoting Indian languages and has seen extensive preparations by the government.

A similar camp was held last year, which achieved unprecedented success. Over 51.3 million students participated in the Indian Language Summer Camp 2025. Due to the enthusiasm and positive feedback from last year, the Ministry has decided to expand this initiative. During the summer holidays of 2026, the Ministry will conduct the Indian Language Summer Camp in all schools nationwide.

This one-week camp aims to introduce students to India’s diverse languages and cultures. Participants will learn basic communication skills in various Indian languages, including self-introduction, essential vocabulary, everyday phrases, and simple conversations.

According to the Ministry of Education, this program is not limited to language learning; it is designed as a cultural experience. Students will be exposed to the languages, folk traditions, music, and cultural characteristics of different states. Activities such as games, group discussions, dialogue practice, cultural presentations, and creative tasks will make the learning process engaging and enjoyable. A notable addition this year is the inclusion of Indian Sign Language.

For the first time, students will receive basic knowledge of sign language, enabling hearing-impaired students to appreciate the importance of communication in various languages. This initiative aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes inclusive and equitable education. The Ministry believes that India’s linguistic diversity is the country’s greatest cultural strength. Such programs not only foster interest in learning new languages among students but also strengthen national unity and mutual understanding.

The Ministry has urged all schools, teachers, and parents to actively support this campaign. The Indian Language Summer Camp 2026 will not only provide a learning opportunity for students but also serve as a significant step towards reinforcing India’s multilingual and multicultural identity.
