Hyderabad, July 21: Indian cricketer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammad Siraj met with Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand on Monday. This was Siraj’s first meeting with Anand since he took office as DGP in May.
The meeting took place at the DGP’s office and was attended by Inspector General of Police (P&I) Gajra Bhupal and DSP (Sports) Ramarao.
Mohammad Siraj officially assumed the role of DSP in October 2024. Following India’s victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that Siraj would receive a government job and a residential plot.
In August 2024, the state cabinet decided to appoint Siraj and world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen to Group-1 positions in the DSP cadre. To facilitate these appointments, the state government amended the Telangana (Regulation of Appointments to Public Services and Rationalization of Staff Pattern and Pay Structure) Act, 1994.
Additionally, the government allocated 600 square yards of land to Siraj on Road Number 78 in Jubilee Hills.
Meanwhile, the DGP reviewed the functions of the Police Welfare Society and the Arogya Bhadrata (Health Security) branches at the office. He emphasized that the welfare of police personnel and their families is one of the top priorities for Telangana Police. The meeting included detailed discussions on the implementation of various welfare schemes, their progress, and future action plans.
Addressing the officials, the DGP stated that the department runs several welfare schemes aimed at improving the living standards of police personnel and their families. He mentioned that the department encourages the meritorious children of police personnel through merit scholarships and provides financial assistance to students preparing for national and state-level competitive exams like JEE and NEET, promoting higher education and academic excellence.
The DGP highlighted that the department offers comprehensive welfare support to police personnel and their families through marriage loans, medical loans, education loans, merit scholarships, additional corpus insurance, and various grant-based assistance schemes, ensuring their financial security.
During the review of the health security scheme, the DGP noted that in 2025, 33,126 police personnel and their family members benefited from treatment under this scheme. By June 2026, 12,392 beneficiaries had received medical care.
He reported that 181.74 crore rupees were spent under this scheme in 2025, with 73.61 crore rupees spent by June 2026, reflecting the department’s ongoing commitment to the health welfare of its employees.
