Azamgarh, July 21: The proposed ‘Vande Mataram‘ bill has sparked diverse reactions across the country. In Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Muslim community leader Qazi Mohammad Arshad expressed his support for the bill, deeming it a significant step for national dignity and respect. He stated that if a law is enacted to protect the honor of ‘Vande Mataram’, it should be welcomed, and there should be provisions for legal action against those who oppose it.
In a conversation, Qazi Mohammad Arshad remarked, “In my understanding, ‘Vande Mataram’ symbolizes the national interest and unity. It is not merely a song or slogan; it represents India’s strength, honor, and pride. Therefore, if the government wishes to introduce a bill to safeguard its respect, it is a positive initiative.”
He further explained, “If the proposed bill includes provisions for action and penalties against those who publicly insult or oppose ‘Vande Mataram’, it should be supported. If ‘Vande Mataram’ is sung at public gatherings, government events, or within any institution, any individual or group opposing it should face legal consequences.”
Qazi Mohammad Arshad emphasized that not only should there be action in such cases, but also appropriate penalties and fines. “This is not just a matter for individuals; it concerns the respect of the entire nation. Therefore, necessary steps must be taken to uphold India’s dignity. No political party or community should oppose ‘Vande Mataram’.”
He added that this issue transcends politics and should be viewed from the perspective of national honor. When people say ‘Vande Mataram’, their intent is to honor the entire nation, not any individual or organization. Respect for the country and a sense of patriotism are duties of every citizen. All political parties and social organizations should approach this matter with a focus on national unity and the greater good, rather than turning it into a contentious issue.
