Chandigarh, July 21: Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Keval Singh Dhillon announced on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Jalandhar marked a significant achievement for the state’s infrastructure.
Projects worth over ₹5,470 crores will directly benefit 12 districts through modern railway stations, new rail services, expressways, and greenfield highways.
Dhillon emphasized that the importance of the Prime Minister’s visit lies not just in the financial value of the projects but in the fact that development has reached every major area of Punjab.
He noted that infrastructure improvements from Doaba to Majha and Malwa will enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, boost trade, and create new opportunities for investment and employment.
Dhillon highlighted that Jalandhar, Mohali, Rupnagar, and Muktsar Sahib will receive newly developed railway stations under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,’ equipped with modern facilities for passengers. Hoshiarpur will benefit from the ₹830 crore Daultpur Chowk-Kartoli railway line, while Amritsar will see the introduction of the new Amritsar (Chheharta)-Varanasi Sant Ravidas Express, strengthening religious and cultural ties. The recently launched Kartoli-Ambala train will further improve rail connectivity across Punjab.
He stated that the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway will transform connectivity for Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot, reducing travel time and logistics costs while enhancing freight transport and regional trade.
Additionally, Mohali and Rupnagar will benefit from the ₹1,570 crore IT City-Kurali greenfield highway and the Ambala-Chandigarh greenfield highway, solidifying the area as a hub for industry, IT, and urban development.
Dhillon further mentioned that the groundbreaking of the Southern Ludhiana bypass will alleviate congestion, improve freight transport, and enhance connectivity between Ludhiana, Bathinda, and other major economic centers.
He concluded, “The Prime Minister has demonstrated through his actions that Punjab’s progress is a national priority. These projects will strengthen the state’s economy, improve connectivity, and create lasting opportunities for future generations.”
