New Delhi, July 21: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Monday that India aims to enhance its relationship with Panama. He highlighted that Panama’s strategic location and robust economy make it a vital partner for India.
During a meeting in New Delhi with Panama’s Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha Vasquez, Jaishankar expressed a mutual desire to advance the partnership between the two nations. He expressed hope that Vasquez’s visit would fortify relations across all sectors.
Jaishankar stated, “Our previous meeting occurred during the fifth India-SICA ministerial meeting at the United Nations General Assembly last September, which we co-chaired. Your visit further promotes our growing high-level contacts. I believe both our governments and leaders wish to deepen and broaden our relationship. India wants to work more closely with Panama due to its significant geographical position and strong economy, which can be an excellent partnership for a country like India.”
He noted that India and Panama collaborate on various international platforms, including the United Nations. Jaishankar appreciated Panama’s interest in enhancing cooperation in education, scholarships, pharmaceuticals, technology, and trade.
“Panama serves as a natural bridge for global trade routes and is a crucial gateway to the entire Latin American region. The Panama Canal and its modern logistics network have a unique identity worldwide. Your desire to increase collaboration in education, scholarships, the pharmaceutical industry, technology, and especially trade is vital for us. We have observed Panama’s consistent economic progress. Meanwhile, India is rapidly advancing towards its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Therefore, we believe that the relationship between our two countries will become even more significant in the future,” Jaishankar added.
He also thanked Panama for supporting India’s right to self-defense following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April 2025.
“I would like to thank the government of Panama for supporting India’s right to self-defense after the Pahalgam terrorist attack and for unequivocally condemning terrorism in all its forms. I am confident that your visit will further strengthen our already solidifying relationship. Today’s discussions will enhance the partnership between our two nations,” he concluded.
