Hyderabad, July 21: The Telangana government has officially launched the Indiramma Indlu scheme aimed at providing affordable housing for the economically weaker sections. This initiative was unveiled on July 20, 2026, during a ceremony at the state secretariat, attended by notable ministers including Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, and Mohammad Azharuddin.
The scheme focuses on constructing residential towers in the core urban region economy area, specifically targeting low-income individuals. These towers will be built along the Outer Ring Road to accommodate the housing needs of the economically disadvantaged.
During the event, the ministers released a brochure detailing the scheme’s processes, eligibility criteria, and application procedures. The Telangana Housing Board will construct these residential towers on government land for the homeless and underprivileged.
In the first phase, the plan includes the construction of 500 homes in each of the 26 assembly constituencies within the core urban region economy area. A total of 7,680 flats will be built in this pilot phase, with plans to expand to a larger initiative of one lakh homes in the future.
The government will provide land for each housing unit and offer a subsidy of ₹5 lakh. The Housing Board has set the beneficiary’s contribution at ₹6 lakh. Additionally, the application fee for LIG flats is set at ₹100, with an earnest money deposit of ₹10,000. If an applicant is not allocated a home, the Housing Board will refund the EMD amount.
Residents of Hyderabad who have lived in the city for the past ten years and have an annual income of up to ₹6 lakh are eligible to apply. Applications will be accepted from July 21 to August 10.
The Housing Board has initially identified 17 locations for constructing the residential towers. Each flat will have a carpet area of 400 square feet and a built-up area of 528 square feet.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that homes will also be constructed in areas where land prices range from ₹2 to ₹3 lakh per square yard. Industry and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu emphasized the government’s goal of making Telangana a slum-free state.
He remarked, “During the previous Congress government, affordable housing was provided to poor and middle-class families in various parts of the city through LIG housing towers. In the same spirit, the Indiramma housing project is being launched in the core urban region economy area.”
The government aims to boost Telangana’s economy to $1 trillion by 2034 and $3 trillion by 2047, as part of the Telangana Rising-2047 vision. Hyderabad is envisioned as the center of this economic growth, with a focus on benefiting the poor and middle-class residents.
The minister expressed confidence that this project would set a new standard for urban housing in the country and serve as a model for similar initiatives. He acknowledged the challenges of land acquisition for housing in urban areas compared to rural regions and assured that the government would build LIG housing towers on millions of acres of land to provide homes for the needy.
Transparency in beneficiary selection and housing allocation will be prioritized to ensure that only eligible families receive Indiramma homes. According to the established rules, 10% of the total homes will be allocated to eligible outsourcing employees, contract workers, and sanitation staff.
