
New Delhi, June 4: Indian boxers are making a significant mark in the world boxing rankings. Jasmine Lamboria has ascended to become the world number one in the women’s 57 kg category. Asian champion Priya Ghanghas (60 kg) and Vishwanath Suresh (50 kg) have also secured spots in the top three of their respective categories. Notably, Indian female boxers dominate nine out of ten weight categories, while their male counterparts rank in eight out of ten categories within the top ten.
In the women’s division, Meenakshi continues to hold her ground as the world number one in the 48 kg category, while Preeti has climbed to number three. Arundhati Choudhary (70 kg), Pooja Rani (80 kg), and Nupur (+80 kg) all stand at world number two. Nikhat Zareen (51 kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) have also maintained their positions among the world’s elite, showcasing India’s growing strength in the heavyweight category.
The men’s team has shown similar consistency. Sachin and Narendra have entered the top five following international successes, while Hitesh Gulia (70 kg) retains his sixth ranking. Avinash Jamwal (65 kg) is ranked eighth globally. Akash (75 kg) and Lokesh (85 kg) have also made it into the top ten.
Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, stated, “These rankings reflect the robust frameworks and systems implemented over the past few years. From grassroots development to high-performance training, our focus has been on creating a sustainable pipeline of talent. It is encouraging to see India’s strong presence globally across nearly every weight category, firmly establishing the country as one of the leading boxing nations.”
India currently ranks third overall in terms of athletes in the top ten worldwide, emerging as a formidable force in women’s boxing, where it holds the second position, and a strong fourth in the men’s category. In the elite top-three category, India ranks third overall, but leads the world in women’s boxing.
Outside the top ten, Parveen (60 kg) is ranked 13th, while Ankushita Boro (65 kg) narrowly missed the top ten at 11th. Sweetie (75 kg), Sakshi (54 kg), Sanju (60 kg), and Neeraj Phogat (65 kg) continue to maintain competitive standings in global rankings.
In the men’s rankings, Ankush (80 kg) is in 11th place, and Deepak (70 kg) is 12th. Jugnu (85 kg) is ranked 14th, while Harsh Choudhary (90 kg) sits at 10th. Sumit (75 kg) and Kumar Naveen (90 kg) are both in 18th place. Nikhil Dubey (75 kg) and Vishal (90 kg) are ranked 22nd in their respective categories.
This impressive advancement in India’s world rankings is attributed to record-breaking performances in the World Boxing Cup Finals, medal wins at the World Championships, and consistent positive results in top and age-group competitions.
