Imphal, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Army successfully thwarted a potential disaster in Manipur on September 7, by neutralizing an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately 10 kilograms. This operation took place in the South Thangjing forest area of Churachandpur district.
According to a post by the Army’s Spear Corps on X, the device was discovered based on credible intelligence. The timely intervention not only safeguarded the local population but also ensured secure movement in the area, reaffirming the Indian Army’s commitment to preserving peace and safety in Manipur.
This incident follows the discovery of three powerful IEDs just 24 hours earlier. On September 6, Spear Corps troops, in collaboration with the Manipur Police, recovered these devices in a wooded area between Leishabithol and Ahmedabad, near the southern border of Assam. The explosives were safely neutralized on-site, effectively averting a significant threat to life and property.
A spokesperson for the defense department highlighted that this joint operation exemplifies the unwavering vigilance and preparedness of security forces, as well as excellent coordination among various agencies in maintaining peace in the region.
In a related operation, a police officer reported that a joint team of Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force, and local NGOs conducted a drug bust in the Khairgao-Naharup areas of Kakching district based on reliable intelligence. This operation led to the arrest of two drug traffickers, identified as 48-year-old Mohammad Riyaz Khan and 26-year-old Dandashawa Molodi, both from Chandel district. Authorities confiscated ten soap boxes filled with heroin, along with a Honda Activa and a Ford Figo vehicle.
