
Ahmedabad, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The World Archery Para Series 2026 in Ahmedabad witnessed an impressive display from Indian archers on its second day. The duo of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi established a new world record in the compound mixed team qualification round, achieving a combined score of 1,400.
Rakesh Kumar secured second place in the para compound men’s qualification with a score of 702, just two points behind the Indonesian archery leader, who scored 704 out of 720. Meanwhile, Sheetal Devi topped the para compound women’s qualification, further enhancing the Indian team’s strong performance.
All eight Indian para compound archers have advanced to the next round. In the men’s category, Rakesh Kumar, Toman Kumar, Shyam Sundar Swami, and Gurvinder Singh progressed, while Sheetal Devi, Payal Nag, Sarita, and Lalpati moved forward in the women’s category.
Competitions for the W1 and visually impaired categories also took place during the day. All eight Indian W1 archers successfully moved on to the next round. The men’s team included Adil Mohammad Nazir Ansari, Naveen Dalal, Nooruddin, and Vinayak Amol Breed, while the women’s team featured Swati Chaudhary, Vasundhara Tevatia, Anjum Tanwar, and Shreya Joshi.
In the visually impaired category, Pawan Kumar, Yugul Garg, and Tanvi Praveen Ingale reached the semifinals, taking another step closer to medal matches.
The competition is now entering its decisive phase. Individual elimination rounds and team matches are scheduled for September 7, followed by the medal matches on September 8 and 9.
Taking place at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad from September 5 to 9, this event has attracted over 100 para archers from 20 countries. This marks the third stage of the 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series. The first stage was held in Bangkok in April, followed by the second stage in Nové Město, Czech Republic, from June 30 to July 4. The fourth and final stage will take place in Santiago, Chile, in October.
