Hansi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Indian boxer Narendra Berwal has once again made his country proud by securing a bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Games held in Hansi. Competing in the men’s 90-kilogram weight category, this achievement marks his second consecutive bronze medal at the Asian Games.
In the semifinals, Berwal faced off against Kazakhstan’s reigning world champion, Aibek Orlabek. Despite giving it his all, he suffered a defeat with a score of 5-0, as all judges favored his opponent.
During the final round, Berwal also faced a standing count but managed to secure the bronze medal for India. This accomplishment is particularly significant for him, as it follows his previous bronze medal win at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
After the match, Berwal expressed his determination, stating that he tried to give 100 percent in the ring but was unable to fully implement his coach’s strategy. He is now focusing on the upcoming World Championship, scheduled for April in Kazakhstan. Berwal aims to return with a gold medal from that event.
He also noted that this tournament will play a crucial role in determining his Olympic selection. His goal is to deliver outstanding performances in future competitions, aiming for a gold medal for India and qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
With this second consecutive medal at the Asian Games, Berwal has solidified his presence in Indian boxing, now setting his sights on the World Championship and the preparations for the 2028 Olympics.
