India-US Trade Deal Boosts Business Confidence

New Delhi, February 3: Major industrialists in India have welcomed the historic trade agreement between India and the United States. They believe that reducing tariffs on Indian goods to 18% will strengthen strategic and economic ties between the two nations.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra expressed his thoughts on social media, stating, “The benefits of moving forward slowly but surely have once again come to light.” He added, “When the noise subsides, two natural partners come together.”

Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump for this trade agreement. He noted that the reduction in tariffs would enhance strategic and Economic Relations, creating new opportunities for investment and collaboration. He also mentioned his group’s commitment to increasing its presence and investment in the U.S., where there are significant prospects for innovation and growth.

Ashish Kumar Chauhan, Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), described the agreement as a “major victory” for business, supply chains, and the partnership between the two countries. He stated that this is a welcome step for global trade, as the tariff on Indian goods has been reduced from 50% to 18%, benefiting commerce and partnerships.

Additionally, Dr. Anish Shah, Group CEO and Managing Director of Mahindra Group, welcomed the trade deal, calling it a significant step towards strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations. He emphasized that the commitment to reduce mutual tariffs from 50% to 18%, along with a gradual decrease in tariff and non-tariff barriers, will boost growth momentum and improve the predictability needed for businesses to invest confidently.

He further stated that considering the robust growth trajectory of the Indian economy, this agreement will meaningfully advance India’s developmental ambitions.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that ‘Made in India’ products will now face only an 18% tariff in the U.S. President Trump confirmed that a trade agreement between India and the U.S. has been reached.

PM Modi shared on social media that it was wonderful to speak with President Trump. He remarked that when two large democracies and economies work together, it benefits the people of both nations and opens up significant opportunities for cooperation. He also highlighted President Trump’s crucial role in global peace, stability, and prosperity, affirming India’s support for his peace efforts.
