Bhopal, July 28: Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has expressed deep concern over the fact that only two percent of the moong crop has been purchased from farmers in Madhya Pradesh. He has addressed a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav regarding this alarming situation. Nath emphasized that Madhya Pradesh is the leading producer of moong in the country.
The central government has set a purchase quota of 454,000 metric tons of moong from Madhya Pradesh for the 2025-26 fiscal year. However, according to media reports, only two percent of this quota had been purchased as of July 16. This injustice is forcing farmers to sell their moong at significantly lower prices. Nath questioned why the state government is not fulfilling its purchasing responsibilities when the central government has allocated 87 percent of the total moong purchase quota to Madhya Pradesh.
He stated that this situation is a blatant injustice to the farmers. Nath urged for an immediate acceleration of the moong purchasing process. He called on the Chief Minister to instruct relevant officials to expedite the purchasing process to alleviate the farmers’ distress.
Farmers in various regions, including Harda and Betul, have already staged protests due to delays and irregularities in the purchase of moong at the minimum support price. Their anger is mounting, and the Congress party is also actively raising this issue.
