India Shines at Commonwealth Games 2026: Speaker Praises Athletes for Medal Wins

New Delhi, August 3: India delivered an outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow, Scotland. The nation secured a total of 39 medals, including 13 golds. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla praised all athletes who contributed to this success and congratulated them in the House.

Before the question hour, the Speaker stated, “In the 23rd Commonwealth Games, athletes such as Asmita Day, Harsh Singh, Preeti Pawar, Jasmin Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Chaudhary, Sachin Sivas, Ankush Panghal, and Soman Rana won gold medals. Neeraj Chopra, Praveen Chithravela, Yamini Maurya, Lovlina Borgohain, Narendra Berwal, and para-athlete Shubham Juyal earned silver medals. Tejaswin Shankar, Yashveer Singh, Selva Prabhu, Unnati Sharma, and Gulveer Singh took home bronze medals.”

The Lok Sabha Speaker highlighted, “India achieved a remarkable feat by winning 13 golds, 17 silvers, and 9 bronzes, totaling 39 medals. We ranked fourth in the medal tally. Our women athletes showcased extraordinary talent, winning 8 golds among 16 medals overall. The next edition of the Commonwealth Games will be held in Ahmedabad, India. Following the closing ceremony tomorrow, the baton for the Commonwealth Games will be handed over to India.”

Om Birla congratulated Indian athletes, commending their achievements. He remarked, “The exceptional performance at the 23rd Commonwealth Games will inspire millions of youth and athletes. On behalf of the House, I extend heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the players, their coaches, and Team India for bringing honor to the nation.”

India’s performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 was remarkable. The country won two gold medals in judo for the first time. Additionally, Indian boxers achieved a historic milestone by winning 7 golds among a total of 10 medals in the Games. Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in track and field at a Commonwealth Games, securing silver in the 10,000 meters and bronze in the 5,000 meters race.
