Bumrah Exits Test Series Against Sri Lanka; Aaqib Nabi Gets First Call-Up

New Delhi, August 3: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to an injury. Bumrah has not recovered in time from his left knee injury, which he sustained during the ODI series against England. His absence is considered a significant setback for the Indian team.

In his place, Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aaqib Nabi has been called up to the Indian Test squad for the first time. Nabi has been in outstanding form in domestic cricket, playing a crucial role in leading Jammu and Kashmir to victory in the Ranji Trophy. He claimed a total of 60 wickets in the tournament and has taken 104 wickets in the last two Ranji seasons. Recently, he was part of the India A team that toured Sri Lanka, where he took six wickets in two matches. This series presents a golden opportunity for Nabi to showcase his skills on the international stage.

So far, Nabi has played 43 first-class matches, taking 162 wickets at an average of 18, including 16 instances of taking five wickets in an innings. In List A cricket, he has claimed 56 wickets in 36 matches at an average of 27. Due to his consistent performances in domestic cricket, there has been a long-standing demand for his inclusion in the Indian Test team.

The two-match Test series against Sri Lanka is set to begin on August 15, with the first match taking place at Galle International Cricket Stadium. The second Test will commence on August 23 in Colombo. Before the series, the Indian team will play a three-day match against Sri Lanka XI starting August 7.
