New Delhi, August 3: India’s performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 has been remarkable. The nation secured a total of 39 medals, including 13 golds. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, praised the Indian contingent for their historic achievements.
Mandaviya shared on his social media platform, “India achieved a commendable fourth place at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Despite the limited scope of the Glasgow 2026 event and the absence of several sports where India traditionally excels, Team India won 39 medals this year, compared to 30 in Birmingham 2022. The growing strength and potential of Indian sports under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is clearly evident.”
He further stated, “We take pride in every athlete, coach, and support staff member who dedicated everything for the honor of the tricolor. As India prepares to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, we are committed to presenting one of the finest events in the history of these games.”
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also commended the Indian team’s performance at the Commonwealth Games. He noted in a post, “The Commonwealth Games 2026 will be remembered as a significant chapter in India’s sports journey, featuring historic achievements, record-breaking performances, and the rise of a new generation of champions. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, India’s continuous investment in sports infrastructure, athlete welfare, and grassroots talent development is translating into historic success on the global stage.”
Rajnath Singh highlighted that India topped the boxing medal table and delivered its best performance ever at the Commonwealth Games. “No country has won as many gold medals in boxing at a single edition of the Commonwealth Games; this is a remarkable achievement showcasing India’s growing dominance in the ring. Athletics reached new heights, with India achieving its best-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games held outside the country. Numerous historic milestones were achieved, including the first medals in men’s 5000 meters and 10000 meters at a single Commonwealth Games, the first decathlon medal, and a historic judo gold among many other outstanding accomplishments.”
The Defence Minister also praised the memorable performances of para-athletes. He wrote, “Para-athletics reached a historic milestone, with India winning its first Commonwealth Games gold in the men’s shot put F57 event and achieving the country’s first double podium finish in this category, reflecting the growing strength and depth of Indian para-sport. These outstanding performances showcase the dedication of our athletes, coaches, and support staff, as well as the strength of the sports ecosystem that continually promotes excellence. Congratulations to every member of Team India. The nation is proud of you.”
