Lucknow, June 17: The second match of the ODI series between India and Afghanistan is taking place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. After losing the toss, the Indian team batted first, scoring an impressive 402 runs, thanks to captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan‘s centuries.
India’s start was shaky. They lost Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 4 runs in the last ball of the second over, leaving them at 9 runs. Following this, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill formed a solid partnership, adding 87 runs for the second wicket. Rohit fell short of a big score, making 48 runs off 39 balls, which included 2 sixes and 6 fours.
Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill then took charge, putting together a remarkable 224-run partnership for the third wicket. This is the largest partnership for any wicket by India against Afghanistan. Both batsmen reached their centuries.
Ishan Kishan scored 125 runs off 79 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 14 fours. This was his second ODI century. Shubman Gill contributed with 154 runs off 110 balls, including 2 sixes and 22 fours, marking his 9th ODI century.
After their dismissals, the Indian innings, which looked poised to reach 450, managed to close at 402 runs. The lower order failed to contribute significantly, with Shreyas Iyer scoring 26 and Washington Sundar adding 19 runs. KL Rahul did not get off the mark. The Indian team was all out in 49.5 overs.
