Australia Triumphs Over Bangladesh in First T20 Match

Chattogram, June 17: Australia secured a 4-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the first T20 match of the series on Wednesday at the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium. Adam Zampa and Joel Davis played pivotal roles, taking a combined total of 6 wickets. With this win, the visiting team leads the three-match series 1-0.

After losing the ODI series 1-2, Australia aims to redeem itself by winning the T20 series during this tour of Bangladesh. The next two matches of the T20 series are scheduled for June 19 and 21 at the same venue.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first but struggled, collapsing for just 131 runs in 19 overs. The opening pair of Saif Hasan and Tanzid Hasan managed to put together a partnership of 26 runs for the first wicket. Tanzid was dismissed for 10 runs, and thereafter, the team continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Parvez Hossain and Abdul Gaffar both contributed 10 runs before returning to the pavilion, while Soumya Sarkar scored 17 runs.

Bangladesh found themselves in dire straits at 108, having lost 9 wickets. However, Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman salvaged some pride by adding 23 runs for the last wicket in just 12 balls. Mehidy remained unbeaten on 29 runs off 22 balls, including 4 fours.

From Australia’s bowling side, Adam Zampa (3 wickets for 18 runs) and Joel Davis (3 wickets for 17 runs) were the standout performers, while Matt Renshaw took 2 wickets. Spencer Johnson and Nikhil Chaudhary also contributed with 1 wicket each.

In response, Australia chased down the target in 18.2 overs. The Australian team lost their first wicket, Josh Inglis (5), at a score of 13. Captain Mitchell Marsh (13) partnered with Cooper Connolly to add 25 runs for the second wicket.

Australia faced early challenges, losing 2 wickets for 38 runs in just 4.5 overs. Connolly steadied the innings, adding 40 runs for the third wicket with Tim David in 28 balls. Connolly scored 47 runs off 27 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 4 fours. Matt Renshaw and Nikhil Chaudhary both contributed 18 runs, bringing Australia closer to victory. Joel Davis (not out on 7) and Javier Bartlett (not out on 4) sealed the win with 10 balls to spare.

For Bangladesh, Abdul Saklein took 2 wickets, while Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan, and Rishad Hossain each claimed 1 wicket.
