
New Delhi, June 17: The second ODI between India and Afghanistan is taking place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Afghanistan’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, won the toss and opted to have the Indian team bat first. Notably, Nitish Kumar Reddy is not part of India’s playing eleven for this match.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a significant update regarding Nitish’s fitness. The BCCI informed via the social media platform ‘X’ that Nitish is unavailable for selection due to an injury to his left thigh. The board confirmed that the BCCI medical team is monitoring his condition. Nitish had an impressive performance in the first ODI, taking two crucial wickets.
For the second ODI, the Indian team has made three changes to its playing eleven. Fast bowler Prince Yadav, who earned his spot due to a strong performance in IPL 2026, is making his ODI debut. Kuldeep Yadav and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also been included in the team. Yashasvi replaces Nitish Kumar Reddy, while Kuldeep takes the place of Harsh Dubey. Prince Yadav is debuting in place of Prasidh Krishna.
In the first ODI, the Indian team showcased a strong performance despite rain interruptions, defeating Afghanistan by seven wickets. Batting first, Afghanistan was bowled out for just 194 runs. The Indian team chased down the target of 195 runs in 24.5 overs, losing three wickets. Captain Shubman Gill played a stellar innings, remaining unbeaten at 84 runs, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan also contributed significantly with the bat. In bowling, Gurnoor Barar and Harsh Dubey each took three wickets.
